Children’s Support League’s Work in Underway in Preparation for the 2011 Home Tour

November 19, 2010

CSL Looking for New Members to Plan 2011 Home Tour
by Jeanne Berres, Public Relations for CSL. www.wehelpkids.org

“This past spring we raised $165,000 from our Heart of the Home Tour to help East Bay children at risk,” reports Children Support League’s new President Stephanie Dauer, who co-chaired the 2010 fundraiser with Eileen Ruby. “We are grateful to everyone who volunteered his or her services and who took part in the Home Tour spanning Piedmont and the Oakland Hills. CSL was able to provide grants to 24 East Bay non-profit agencies. Some of these agencies gravely need financial assistance to help keep their critical programs afloat in these tough economic times. Next year we would love to increase our tour proceeds, but as always, it requires the dedication and energy of our membership and the community’s support.” The 23rd annual Heart of the Home Tour will be held on Friday and Saturday, April 29-30, 2011.

With 30 returning CSL active members, many with more than ten years of service, and several new members already on board to help plan and organize the 2011Home Tour, CSL is still seeking to grow its membership and encourages anyone interested in joining to call 510-338-4521. CSL hosts planning meetings on the second Tuesday of each month.

“We also invite past grant recipients to speak at our monthly meetings in order to acquire a deeper understanding of the programs which CSL helps fund” said Hallie Normington, who co-chairs the 2011 CSL Grant Committee with Elizabeth Stumpf. “We are often moved to tears when we hear how our home tour revenues make a critical difference in situations, such as an abused mother in flight with an infant child needing protective shelter. The agency presentations give us additional incentive to make each annual Home Tour more inviting, vibrant, and successful than the year before.” Since its inception in 1986, CSL has raised over $2.5 million for East Bay non-profit agencies.

2011 Home Tour Co-Chairs Debbi DiMaggio and Jocelyne Birren are seasoned CSL veterans with unbridled enthusiasm and great expectations for the coming spring event. “The CSL home tour is close to my heart, “said Debbi DiMaggio., “Like most of us, I have a soft spot for children and want to help them live a better life through our efforts.”

Debbi and I are currently scouting for homes to place on the tour” added Jocelyne. “We welcome referrals from business contractors who service homes in Piedmont and the Oakland hills and area homeowners. We are looking for homes with that ‘wow’ factor, particularly homes which indulge and delight our senses and may have been recently remodeled or renovated. Knowing that unique homes excite tour goers and ultimately sell more tour tickets keeps us focused in our pursuit. We are devoted to enriching the lives of families with hardships—families that often times can barely make ends meet.”

Children’s Support League is an all-volunteer non-profit organization whose purpose is exclusively charitable. For additional information, visit the CSL website at www.wehelpkids.org . CSL’s November meeting will be held at 9:30 am on Tuesday, November 9 at the Piedmont Community Center, 711 Highland Avenue. Prospective members are invited to attend. The December meeting will include a holiday social and toy drive to again support an East Bay non-profit that touches the lives of the children in our communities.
